Recorded by Part Chimp’s Tim Cedar at south London's rising star, Dropout Studios, this hefty chunk of wax compromises six grinding, drug-fuelled stabs of rock 'n' roll at it's most primal. From the opening menacing swagger of Truckstop Queen and LFD to the relentless, crushing velocity of Face Biter and Tick Tack Toe, HAG are here to show you what a heavy rock band should sound like. An obvious love affair with the likes of Melvins, Harvey Milk and High On Fire resonates strongly throughout and HAG certainly wear these influences on their collective sleeve. Guitarist and singer Ian Baigent’s (Montana Pete) strained vocals battle feverishly against the unwavering, watertight bass and drum freight train of Rob Freeman and Tamas Kiss (Notorious Hi-Fi Killers). HAG present a well-referenced sound that has been dragged to hell and back before being unceremoniously smashed through your eardrums. Peeking through the cracks of this twitching colossus is a band always wanting everything ‘one louder’ and telling you not to take things so fucking seriously. |
